HOW TO BEADING 101 - A BEGINNER INTRODUCTION

If you always wonder if you can make your own jewelries, the answer is YES.
The first step is always the hard one but there is no reason not to give it a try.
They were very much much cheaper to make then you buy it, which often not fit your budget.
Make it as a pro and you can even sell them on Etsy.

When working with beads, the possibilities are limitless.
The beads give you a range of suggestions for things you can try.
Whether you want to make these cool jewelries for yourself or you want to make them
for someone you know, they are all adorable.
We will include something basic and also include some special projects from our guest designers
that you might like to try copying or create your style and share your story.
With the visual photos below, you could craft your own jewelry for your daily wear or even
an impressive gift for any occasion.

LET’S START!

CHOOSE YOUR JEWELRY MAKING TOOLS
The essentials tools that every jewelry maker needs are:
• Flat Nose Pliers will help you open jump rings, finish wire-wrapped ends
• Round Nose Pliers will help you make wire loops and hoops, bends, clasps and jump rings
• Nylon Tipped Pliers. Simply grab one end of the wire, grip tightly with your pliers and
pull your wire through to smooth it out.
• Wire cutters for cutting thick wire
• Crimping Pliers
• Ruler

CHOOSE YOUR BEADS
There are many kind of Beads. Glass, Plastic, Acrylic, etc, but our favourite is Silver Beads. Why?
Because they are durable, light, high luster, and even stronger than gold that make it
an ideal choice for jewelry.
They can come with bright or antiqued or oxidized finished to have the vintage appearance.
They could be vermeil into gold too!
Find your very best unique and handmade pieces!

CHOOSE YOUR STRING
There are many different types of strings (and wires and threads) to choose from.
You could use Elastic Cord, Nylon, Silk, Waxed Thread, Leather, ribbon even silver Wire.
You need to consider some of these to identify the best thread for your project.

Bead size:
You will see that every bead has a hole with various sizes.
They will be around 0.5mm-2mm usually.
So, you will need a string that appropriate with it.
For example, if your bead is 0.6 mm then your string should be 0.5 mm.
Check both diameter so that you can easily use them.

Bead Weight:
Match the weight of your bead with the strength of the string.
If the bead are too heavy, the string will be sagging or break which you want to avoid.

Style of Project:
The colour of the string will depend upon your project.
Clear or white works well for projects where you want to hide the thread.
Choose colourful string if you want the thread to add the look appeal

Elasticity:
Every type of beading string, wire, or thread has its own degree of elasticity.
Copper wire, for example, is not going to stretch.
Elastic, however, will stretch quite a bit.
Always consider how much stretch you want.
Simple bracelets or necklaces for children or inexpensive jewelry, for example, may require elastic.
Wrap around bracelets, however, may do better with copper wire.
You may want a little bit of stretch for knotting in between beads, or you may want
rigidity to achieve a certain shape.

Conclusion that you can try are:
Common elastic cord for making bracelets is 0.7mm or 1mm.
Silk is most often used for pearls
Nylon works well for common projects

START AS SIMPLE AS IT CAN BE
When starting a beading project, the focus is usually on the beads you plan to use
and the design you plan to create.
Of course, there are so many things to learn, but if you are sticking to the simple stuff first,
then making jewelry won’t be a big deal.
Use just 1 single bead and string them is always the easiest way to make your jewelry.
Learn how to knot with your string.

Here we choose the simple one for beginner.

Overhand knot
It usually required at the end of leather or suede wrap.
It is a knot that you tie your shoes.
Take two ends of string (or other material), cross them over one another and pull.
It usually required at the end of leather or suede wrap.

Square knot or Reef Knot
It is usally used when you are using strechy string so they are not apart.
First, you tie two Overhand Knots as follow right over left, then left over right.
Imagine a top and bottom rope, first tie the bottom rope ends together with a handover, then repeat in the other direction for the top making sure both ends of your rope exit together.

Surgeon’s knot
First you tie two Overhand Knots as follows – right over left, then left over right.
Imagine a top and bottom rope, first tie the bottom rope ends together with a handover, then repeat in the other direction for the top making sure both ends of your rope exit together.

Sliding knot
Make a loop at around end of each string.
Insert one of the loop to the other loop (left to right loop or right to left loop) and it is done.

With these knot skills and even just one bead, you could make them as necklace, bracelet or anklet.
Wear them as one or stack them.
This first project is so easy that even you can do this project with your child to expand their creativity!
Bond your togetherness to create something special together!
